How to visualise pungency degree of chili pepper with infographics

Results

Creating a series of illustrations, colors, and graphs to communicate complex data in a format, analysis one of the indispensable food of our life - Chilli, creating a series of eye-catching, visually interesting infographics.

Topic 1: 8 kind of chilli🌶

The first infographic describes 8 kinds of chilli. Make specific statistics on eight kinds of chilies in the aspects of the place of origin exporting area, SHU, color, shape, length, and usage. Eight kinds of chilies are long chili, Serrano mountain pepper, Naga Viper pepper, bell pepper, pod pepper, Trinidad, and scorpions butch T, India devil pepper, and Capsicum Chinese.

Chili has been an indispensable part of our life. Almost in every meal, we see some of it. Without it, life can be too plain for those who want more flavors. But how many of us really know this appetizer for its worth? Therefore, this design focuses on chili. And there is three part of this project.

The first part describes eight kinds of chilies while the second part introduces the pungency degree and SHU of them and the last one deals with the grades of pungency and its relation to mood. coville Heat Unit in honor of Scoville. Scoville Heat Unit(SHU) has also become the unit of piquancy degree.

The whole design is presented through illustration way, which is an interesting way to express the information. The liveliness of illustration perfectly matches the life-oriented “chilli”. Observers are sure to obtain a more concrete and lively understanding of chilli through the design as it offers a neat conclusion of chilies in a different way.

The unit of piquancy degree, which means grinding the chilli fist, then diluting it with sugar water until unaware of piquancy. The dilution ratio at this time represents the chilli piquancy degree. The piquancy degree standard was named Scoville Heat Unit in honor of Scoville. Scoville Heat Unit(SHU) has also become the unit of piquancy degree.

Topic 2: Piquancy degree and Planets🪐

The second infographic is piquancy degree and SHU. To classify the chilies according to the value of SHU, we can classify 8 degrees, From degree one to degree eight, the value of SHU is increasing. To describe SHU of the chili with the size of the eight planets, it will be more vivid. People will know clearly that the piquancy degree of the chili they eat has a big difference from the high-level piquancy degree (6-8 degree).

Topic 3: Piquancy degree and emotion👩🏻‍🦰

The third one is a piquancy degree and emotion. Emotions will change when people eat chilies with different piquancy degrees. The reason for people’s emotions change is because the opioid peptide which controls pain-sensing nerves in human body changes. The index of an opioid peptide is changed from degree one to eight. Degree five is the most suitable piquancy degree for people’s consumption. People will have positive emotions when eating from degree one to degree five. The spicier the chili is, the higher the opioid peptide index is, the more intense pain people will feel, and then they will produce negative emotions.
